All in the Family

The New York Philharmonic Ensembles concert this Sunday at Merkin Concert Hall will be a family affair, as composer Emily Tu joins forces with her father, Cellist Qiang Tu, and Violinist Kuan Cheng Lu for a performance of her work Dawn to Dusk. The 17-year-old has been performing her own award-winning compositions for more than half her life and is also an accomplished pianist, proving that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree: when her dad was 17, he received England’s Menuhin Prize as a member of the China Youth String Quartet in his native country.
